What is the #whanauchallenge

Mō te ao, mō te whānau, mō tātou katoa - for the planet, for the family, for all of us.

Sustainable Whanau Challenge is an online challenge that helps New Zealanders to make small changes in our everyday lives. It gives you the tools and inspiration to contribute to a healthy, sustainable, future - and have fun in the process.

Our challenge is free and open to everyone. Sign up to any challenge across the seven themes and stick with it! Compete with other participants and be rewarded for completing your chosen challenges by earning points.

Why take the challenge?

Common wisdom says it takes three weeks to form a new habit. This is an opportunity to take up the challenge to live more lightly on the planet - and sustain it!

Challengers can work together, encourage others and share stories on Facebook and Instagram. Each challenge earns you points, and enters you into the draw for prizes. Bring your family, friends and workmates - the combination of inspiration, and friendly competition makes change a little easier, and more fun!

Kaipatiki Project is proud to bring to you the second Sustainable Whanau Challenge. In the 2015 pilot, over 450 households and 700 individuals participated, and maintained their new habits! The winner of the e-bike has since sold his car, and is enjoying the daily and long-term benefits for his health and his wallet.

Kaipatiki Project helps people live more sustainably at home and across neighbourhoods. For 19 years, we have been empowering communities to achieve their sustainability goals. We do this through our community-led volunteer native plant nursery, backyard biodiversity and stream restoration projects, facilitating the Auckland EVolocity schools electric vehicle challenge, running EcoFest North Festival, supporting Compost Collective and a range of educational workshops, such as Beekeeping for Beginners and Harakeke weaving.
